Dovetail Chests    

Ian Johnson has long admired the beauty, strength and functionality of a fine dovetailed chest. He is proud to offer this line of chests, most  in stock.  They can be viewed on the second floor of the mill in our gallery. Each chest is constructed from solid hardwoods, with Ash and Pine used as secondary woods. Some suggested uses for this chest; storing collectibles, keepsakes, photographs, clothing, and linens. It can also be used as a unique retirement gift with a personalized monogrammed lid. Additionally, a fond inscription or story can be engraved on the lids underside.

The chest features traditional joinery with no nails or fasteners. The strongest joints known, dovetails, are used on each corner, and on the rear feet. The chest is presented on elegant Chippendale feet. The lid trim is returned with true breadboard ends, this allows the lid to move with seasonal changes, without causing warping. All hardware is solid brass with thick machined hinges. Outside dimensions are 36”wide, 18” deep, 25” high.

Each chest is finely finished with my aged cherry or maple finish. Chests are available with a plain or carved front.  Custom designs are also available on the lid including carving and gilding. Chests can be shipped safely for under $100.00 in most cases.
