Set 1 - Educational Cogbox

We have made our Set 1 Educational Cogbox since 1989. This educational tool is intended for students in 1st grade and above, with the primary goal of introducing a number of important principles relative to simple machines and gears. The student gains a basic understanding of gears through play; different configurations are achieved when moving the gears on their triangular matrix board.

The gears are made from solid cherry and sit on their laminated birch hardwood base. The top of each gear has a tough lacquer finish while its sliding surface is finished with non-toxic low friction mineral oil. The base may be rejuvenated after years of service by just rubbing with 220 grit paper and applying food grade mineral oil. To allow further use of the board, the wooden axle pegs are not attached to the gears. Set 1 (15" by 11") is presented in a sturdy green box decorated with gold lettering. An instruction sheet is included.
